Welcome to our first Full Moon Liberation of 2022!

This month's Full Moon will be taking place when the Sun in Capricorn forms an opposition to the Moon in Cancer. This will be an emotional cycle – filled with romance, fertilization, & relationships. So, this is a time of culmination & the promise of fulfillment from the workings we manifested during the New Moon earlier this month. These revelations will be intense & could feel larger than life.

Fun Fact:
Moon names from the Native American, Colonial American, & European traditions are based on seasonal activity and harvest. The Wolf Moon came to be named during the month of January when wolves were known to be howling most often. Howling was thought to be for hunger, but wolves howl for a number of reasons. These include pack communication, territory protection, bonding, and hunting.

This cycle spans from January 17th to February 16th – so we have a full 30 days to take in its healing vibrations!

    Oof… what a time to be in the present. The Wolf Moon is all about being large & in charge. You want to intentionally harness this very full-of-life energy of this Wolf & jumpstart your life story. The Wolf is hungry. They are on the hunt & they are ready for a change. So, over the next 30 days, it is going to be very important for you to have that go-getter mentality. If you work for it, & reach for your goals, then the rest of 2022 is going to be easy pickings.

    Now, we as wolves will be busy in our hunts through this cycle – however, we will also be at the peak of interaction with others, bonding, & making boundaries for our territories. So, you may see a huge increase in social interactions during this time. This could be socializing with family, with friends, or even new or old flames. The key to balancing all of this is going to be communication. Be upfront. Howl. Don’t keep your feelings hidden.

    Now, let’s talk about those boundaries real quick. With all the hustle & bustle of life, you have to know what your limits are. You also have to make sure that others know those limits, so you don’t end up getting trampled. Stand firm. & remain in control. 

    How To harness this Moons Energy
    Now, I know that it’s easy to lose connection with the Moon & with Mother Earth during these brisk and chilly days. Being one who is not a fan of the cold, here are a few ways to help you reconnect and realign during these cold Midwinter days.

    Go for a Hike
    This time of year we can all feel a bit sluggish & confined during the chilly days. It can be so easy to binge on unhealthy food & episodes of Criminal Minds. Remedy? Bundle up in your winter coat, boots, & beanie, & get outside. Even for a short period of time. Really slow down & enjoy the charm of a beautiful winter day.

    Embrace Quiet Solitude
    Take advantage of these cold days. Stay inside. Play cards or board games, work on your journal, start or finish some craft projects, snuggle up for a movie marathon, clean or organize that space you’ve been meaning to get to. Find a series, movie, genre, or actor you love & create a binge-worthy marathon. Complete with loved ones, cozy socks, delicious snacks, a good blanket, and maybe even a furry friend to snuggle with!

    Howl at the Moon
    No, I’m not kidding. In a place where you feel comfortable, stand with your two feet apart and your hands on your hips in your best superhero pose (think Amelia from Grey’s Anatomy.) Studies have shown that if you maintain this position for five minutes you will perform better at a difficult or challenging task. It also helps provide you with confidence. Why stop there? Think of a negative feeling or stressful situation that’s been a burden on you. Now, keep that superhero pose, & give a few big howls. Imagine that worry and negativity leaving your body. In its place is nothing but tranquil energy and peace. This can be a wonderful way to release tension, anxiety, or heavy emotions, or at a minimum, it’s a big mood booster.

    Embrace the Wolf Metaphor
    Wolves are very social animals and rely on the pack for survival. This is a meaningful time to remember family and loved ones that are important to you.
    How can you honor your elders (or mentors you admire), and traditions?
    Can you help a loved one with a task or a special gift?
    Maybe you need help with something, reach out to a friend or a member of your pack who can help!

    Simplify
    There’s a reason why so many people have embraced the minimalism mindset (ahem…moved into a 900sq foot cottage…). I cannot tell you the freedom it brings to purge things from your life that bring you negative feelings of guilt, shame, fear, worry, and maybe even anger. When you come back from donating those items or throwing them away, this amazing thing happens…you don’t know what to do. There’s no distractions and you can begin to sort through the things that really matter. The things that bring you the most joy. I mean there’s no need to go full Minimalist, but this is a perfect time to let go of things that are holding you back or weighing you down. Not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. Take some time to journal and reflect on last year, and what you’d like to leave in your past.

    It's important for each of us to lay out & design our own rituals each lunar cycle. There are so, so many different ways you can connect with the Moon -- so be sure to discover your own! However, I will be including a small ritual idea below for those looking for a little inspiration!

    Simple Releasing Ritual:

    What you’ll need:
    Pen
    Paper
    Candle
    Matches
    Firesafe dish/container to burn your paper in.

    Optional:

    Crystals
    Tarot/oracle cards
    Smoke bundles
    Relaxing music
    Essential oils
    ANYTHING to set the tone for your sacred space.

    Step 1 – Create a Sacred Space.
    If you’re not performing this ritual outside, find a serene place to sit and turn on some relaxing music. Place crystals or other special items around you if you desire.

    Step 2 – Clear your energy.
    Light a candle &/or incense to connect to your senses. Burn your smoke bundle to clear negative/low energies. Close your eyes and imagine yourself standing under a silver waterfall and allow all negative energies to be washed away.

    Step 3 – Become Present.
    Become fully present in your body by bringing awareness to your breath. Send each breath into the body from the top of the head to the tip of the toes. Notice any tensions and allow them to relax with each breath you take.

    Step 4 – Declare it.
    Write on the piece of paper what you intend to release from your life. What limiting beliefs do you want to be free from? What relationships or job are no longer serving you? What emotions need to be healed and forgiven?

    Step 5 – Let go.
    Breathe deep into your heart and declare,

    I release that which is not mine.
    I release all obstacles in my path.
    I release limiting beliefs.
    I release fears & doubts.
    I release those relationships that no longer serve my highest good.
    I release attachment to the outcome.
    I release externalized desire.
    I release pain & suffering as a means to growth.
    I release all that which is no longer in alignment with my highest self for my greatest good.
    & so it shall be.

    Let the universe handle it from here.

    Step 6 - Light it Up! Now for the FUN stuff! Hold one corner of the paper over the candle allowing the flame to burn away what you are releasing. Watch the smoke release your intention to the Universe. If your piece of paper struggles to light or burn, please consider if you are really ready to let this go! Only when you are truly willing to let go will the page burn – the faster the flames, the more willing you are to let it go.

    Step 7 – Forgive it. Sit in silence for a moment to integrate the feelings of a new lighter energy. End with forgiveness and gratitude. Let all the negativity you have toward these problems drain away by forgiving the situation or person who wronged you (even if it’s you!) and thank yourself and the Universe for taking care of this situation on your behalf.

    BONUS! Reward yourself by taking a hot Epsom salt bath or give yourself a massage with essential oils to honor the physical and emotional release you’ve just experienced.
