The Elements

The Elements

Merry Meet, my Magickal Ones.

It seems that there is a bit of an issue with some of the more modern books on witchcraft in regard to the Elements.

A short & sweet synopsis of the subject, & then it’s on to the next topic.
This bothers me.

The Elements are a much bigger deal than slapping together a 4 page chapter & calling it a day. The Elements are not only connected to one another, but they’re connected to you as well. You can draw energy from them at any time to assist in any kind of work that you do.

Each element has their own energies & correspondences that can be used in specific ways in your practice. We have Earth, Water, Air, & Fire. & for a lot of us, there is a 5th one that we like to call Spirit.

Spirit is that magical part of us all where we draw our power from.

Earth - 🌎
Astrological Signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Tarot Suit: Pentacles/Coins
Direction: North
Season: Winter
Masculine Energy
Chakra: Root
Herb: Basil
Gemstones: Hematite, Obsidian, Malachite, Aventurines
Color(s): Greens, Browns
This is the foundation that gives the other elements the room to play & thrive. Reconnecting with this element can generally be a very simple process. Take a walk in the park, or in a wooded area. Feeling the ground underneath of your bare feet. Surround yourself with growing things like herbs, spices, and plants.

Air - 💨
Astrological Signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Tarot Suit: Swords
Direction: East
Season: Spring
Feminine Energy
Chakra(s): Throat, Third Eye
Herb(s): Mint, Ginger, Dill Weed
Gemstones: Quartz, Citrine, Lapis Lazuli, Sodalite
Color(s): Yellow, White, Light Blue
The element of Air comes down to reconnecting with your mind as well are your creative process. Thinking & puzzling through something. Take a walk on a breezy day. Pay attention to the way the trees move in the wind. How the wind feels as it blows all around you.

Water - 💦
Astrological Signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Tarot Suit: Cups
Direction: West
Season: Fall
Feminine Energy
Chakra: Heart
Herb(s): Aloe Vera, Rosemary, Chamomile
Gemstones: Aquamarine, Moonstone, Fluorite, Pearl, Opal
Color(s): Blues, Greens, Greys
The element of Water assists us in going with the flow & diving deeper into our feelings; even if those feelings aren’t the most pleasant. Even with the constant motion of this element, it is focused on a more slow & steady movement. Brew some tea. Make some essential oil blends. Take a nice long bath to reconnect with water! Light some candles, line your tub with crystals, & throw in some salts & herbs for the perfect ritual bath to bring balance back into your life.

Fire - 🔥
Astrological Signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Tarot Suit: Wands
Direction: South
Season: Summer
Masculine Energy
Chakra(s): Sacral, Solar
Herb(s): Cinnamon, Cardamom, Chili Powder
Gemstones: Sunstone, Carnelian
Color(s): Oranges, Yellows
Fire is about transformation & light. Reconnecting with this element has all to do with leadership & power. Find things that ignite your passion. Burn incense or candles. Brew your favorite beverage to invite the energy to be sparked within you. Also, activities that promote being active & sweating are a great way to connect.

Spirit - ⭐
The element of spirit does not have the same arrangements of correspondences as the physical elements since spirit is not physical. Various systems may associate planets, tools, and so forth to it, but such correspondences are far less standardized than those of the other four elements.

The element of spirit goes by several names. The most common are spirit, ether or aether, and quintessence, which is Latin for "fifth element."

There is also no standard symbol for spirit, although circles are common. Eight-spoked wheels and spirals are also sometimes used to represent spirit.

Spirit is a bridge between the physical and the spiritual. In cosmological models, the spirit is the transitory material between the physical and celestial realms. Within the microcosm, the spirit is the bridge between body and soul.

It may take some time, but when we actually take the time & put in the effort to reconnect with each of these elements, we really begin to understand their power & energies; & just how we are able to pull from them to use in our practice.

Until next time! 🌙
